IC:

Character name: Iroh
Fandom: Avatar: Legend of Korra
Timeline: The end of Book One.
Age: Early to mid twenties.

~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths:
Okay before I get into the more interesting things that come from the world of Avatar, the first thing to bring up is Iroh is a general in the United Forces, military of the the United Republic. That means he is familiar with strategy, warfare, combat... and leading a fleet of REALLY COOL BOATS.

As for the special abilities that are not quite as mundane, the general here is a firebender. In his world, certain individuals can manipulate a particular element, officially known as bending. Iroh is shown to be very skilled in it, using his firebending to propel himself in the air, or fire kick pilots out of planes. The techniques to firebend are based off of real-world Shaolin Kung Fu, so yes, it adds badass and pyromania to fight scenes. There are weaknesses to it, though, as with all bending so that they balance out. The source of a firebender’s ability comes from the sun. In the case of a solar eclipse, he or she would be completely powerless. The strength is also based on one determination and drive. Having little motivation or current purpose leads to tiny flames.

A more advanced technique Iroh has been is the skill to generate and direct electricity. It is powerful and precise, but it comes at the cost of being potentially lethal to its own user. Lightning generation requires a clarity of the mind and an absence of emotion. There's also the painstaking technique and motions to direct it properly... and Iroh can do it, no problem.

How would they use their abilities?: TO DEFEND HIS HONO- kidding, kidding. He’s really not the the type to use his bending for unscrupulous things, and more likely for a serious goal or objective. Protecting other and/or defending himself is included.

Appearance: Mister General has the traits of any pure blooded Fire Nation Citizen. He has black hair that he would have tried to keep all neat, but in the end it actually looks better slightly untidy and actually makes him look his age. He also has the trademark amber eyes that aren't that intimidating, but look fairly serious. While he looks fairly composed most of the time, he’s not emotionless and can be humorously expressive. He’s dressed in the uniform of a high-ranking official in the United Forces, consisting of a red jacket, white pants, and boots. His clothes are not in the best of shape thanks to an explosion in an ambush, but still wearable. What that explosion also left him with is a scar on his left upper arm.

Background/Personality:
Personal Background:
Iroh is from the Fire Nation. To be more specific, he is the son of the as-of-yet unnamed female Fire Lord, who in turn is Zuko’s daughter. Zuko is a major character from the original series and seventy years prior to the current story, he was the banished, ultimately good-hearted but rough-like-a-boarcupine-otherwise prince of the Fire Nation, who became in the end Avatar Aang’s firebending teacher, and a good fire lord who reigned for many years before passing the crown to his daughter, traveling the world as an ambassador of peace. This makes Iroh his grandson, and is of Royal Fire Nation blood. If it wasn’t obvious, Iroh is named after the great general Iroh that was Zuko’s uncle and father figure. Fittingly enough, at some point Iroh joined the United Republic Forces and rose to the rank of General himself, and is the youngest to ever do so.

The main story
Legend of Korra takes place seventy years after the 100 year war, ended by Avatar Aang and his group of friends. Along with Fire Lord Zuko, who took the throne after his ruthless tyrant of a father Ozai was defeated by Aang, they brought the nations of the Water Tribe, Earth Kingdom, and Fire Nation together into the United Republic of Nations. Over the decades, its capital of Republic City thrives into a bustling modern city.

The Avatar is the spirit of the planet born into a mortal body, and thus a very significant figure in the story. He or she is the only one capable of bending all four elements, along with an innate connection to the spirit world. With this great power, the Avatar is tasked with upholding peace in the world, and restoring balance should it ever be disrupted.

When the Avatar dies, the spirit of the Avatar is born into another. Upon Aang’s passing, the new Avatar would be Korra of the Southern Water Tribe. Mastering three of the four elements at the young age of seventeen, the only element she was unable to bend was air, due to her lack of connection to spirituality. She was taken in by Republic City Councilman Tenzin, one of Aang’s children and the only accomplished airbender in the world along with his children. There, she makes herself at home in the City, making friends with Mako, Bolin, and Asami, a firebender, earthbender, and badass driver respectively. With them they enjoy this really cool sport with bending... until the fire nation- er, the Equalists attacked.

The major antagonists of The Legend of Korra are the Equalists, a group of non-benders situated in Republic City who are against the practices of bending, having a considerable following thanks to corruption within the city and the presence of bending focused gangs. Their leader is Amon, a charismatic, yet cruel masked man with the astonishing ability to take away a person’s bending permanently.

While there have been some small victories against the Equalists, over time they do gain the upper hand in attack around Republic City and taking almost full control of it. In this state of urgency, Tenzin sends a wire to the United Republic Forces for backup. Unfortunately, upon arrival the fleet is quickly taken down, unprepared against the underwater mines and aircraft developed by Hiroshi Sato, a famous industrialist and strong supporter of the Equalist movement. Iroh is knocked down from his ship and into the bay, but rescued by Korra, who witnessed the ambush and decided to assist.

They and Korra’s friends return to the hidden underground slums and create a plan to stop the equalists. Because the reinforcements led by Commander Bumi of the United Forces will soon be on their way, Iroh comes up with a plan so that the same mistake happens twice. With the help of a former telegraph operator Gommu, they send a warning to Bumi and that he should hide the fleet until a signal is given that it is safe. While Korra and Mako go after Amon directly, Asami, Bolin, and Iroh infiltrate the airstrip to stop the next wave of planes targeting Bumi’s fleet. They find the airstrip, but end up walking into a trap. They are captured and learned their transmission to to Bumi was intercepted, and the planes will approach where the second fleet is hidden. Thankfully, Korra’s faithful polar bear dog Naga breaks them free, as she did not follow the group into the zappy fence trap and has danger senses. While Bolin and Asami wreck the airstrip and machines, Iroh goes after that planes that just took off. He catches up to them with his firebending skills, along with hijacking one to keep up. Biplanes explodes but his isn't in any better shape, so he evacuates and catches on to the vandalized statue of Avatar Aang, to which he thanks for looking out for him. Getting off that giant sculpture is where he's being taken.

Personality-wise, Iroh is a typical member of a defensive force. He’s focused and quick on his feet, which has helped with his terrible luck that may or may have not been inherited through family. He comes up with plans that have been shown to backfire, but he manages to get around those snags like the cool-headed general he is. Despite keeping a calm manner, he's far from stoic. There are plenty of comedic moments, and likely he will will react through his expressions father than say them. Making rather humorous faces seems to run in the family. Even though of Fire Nation royalty, he is humble and respectful, as seen when he shows his gratitude to Avatar Korra for saving his life, and reflects upon the decisions of his grandfather with the Avatar and trusts them to agree with Korra’s wish to go after Amon, despite his initial reluctance. Something that makes him very much a descendant of Zuko, and perhaps a member of the royal family, is his tendency to dive into risks and think about the complications later, as seen when he firebends a missile heading towards him, and later on trying to pilot an Equalist biplane that prior to the battle for Republic City, had never seen, much yet flown before. So give the man an objective and there exist little boundariess against him accomplishing it. This kind of mindset actually works well with his strong sense of duty (which drove him to stop those planes at any cost, as he did not want what happened to his fleet to happen to Commander Bumi’s).

For applicants considering an alternate version of a character already in game, please use this as your chance to explain the key differences between your character and the one already in play:

Have you read up on how the game works?: Yessir! Flaming Ferret, get credits through missions, owning a business, or mooching off castmates people.

1st person sample:
[Today on your guide is a classroom. There a bunch of characters scribbled on the board and translations, with the neatly dressed teacher in front of them. Yes there are some paying attention to that through comments far from tasteful, or otherwise chatting with friends about other things. As in they’re not paying attention to the actual teaching.]

So... that is why the character for “well” looks like that. Many characters are based off simplified pictures, if that helps anyone having trouble with object characters.

[The poor lesson is getting drowned out by the chatters of students]

Or you can think of it as a... Tic Tac Toe gameboard, as I think someone’s mentioned it.

[There's still talking. Talking, talking, talking. Is Iroh aware that he’s losing the students faster than an eel hound...?]

SLAM.

[Well, that answers it. Despite the desk being on the receiving end of another refugee-hired teacher’s frustration, Iroh looks pretty calm, staring back at the students caught off-guard by the sound.]

Would a... different kind of exercise be preferred, to clear your heads of whatever is going on today?

[There’s a resounding yes, and it nearly seems to make Iroh wince at the noise. Just nearly, though. He clears his throat.]

Very well then.

[He straightens up and gives a sharp look that could smoulder the other desks.]

Twenty laps around the room, or until the bell rings! If I hear any complaints, any notion of dissent, we’re doing this first thing at the beginning of every class to count attendance! You hear me?

Sir, yes, sir!

[Well, now the class of 412-C have learned not to disregard the authority of an awakened general. That’s something.]

3rd person sample:
Iroh knows a fairly good amount on ships and their variations, seeing as different nations have different ideas on how to make floating hunks of metal appealing. The S.S. Thor in its turtle-sans-duck entirety, makes as much sense as it should. Which absolutely frustrates the young general here. He’s at a desk, and after suffering the misfortune (that he prefers to deny of its relation to karma, family, whatever) that is getting his Guide stolen, he finally got it back. Now he has guide retrieval paperwork to do. The checks and initials are half-hearted; if there’s any hint of his age, it’s how quickly his mind is wandering off.

"That boy..."

He doesn’t have the heart to call the young man who ran off with his Guide a “thief”. It's not the first time that it's happened to him, Republic City only has so much hospitality that can't reach every corner. For all he know, it could have been a mistake and that's why it was dropped it off.  Were it a real robbery also, he probably wouldn’t have gotten it back in the first place.

What bothered him more was the moment he had to see his face, or most of it. Dark hair, gold eyes, red clothes... he’d be stupid to not be reminded of home and his people. To bother him further, there was definitely something on the side of the young man’s face turned away from his vision. Something even more familiar if he wasn’t seeing things from the shock of getting pushed to the ground during the act.

"They’ve said it over and over, the record of time of your old world is no longer relevant. That really could have been... -Ow!"

What drags him out of his thoughts is a throb of pain from falling on his bandaged arm earlier, nearly making him drop the pen. Korra’s healing managed to keep the burn from getting worse, but it’s more than likely going to leave a scar. There’s probably something to be said about how fitting it is... but he’s not going to think hard on that. Getting some ointment or if he’s lucky, a healer for the burn, may be a good idea though. ...There better not be forms for that.
